About Tessa Hughes
I developed a passion for animals early on, volunteering at rescue centers, and working in veterinary practices and kennels where I gained practical skills in the industry. I earned a First-Class Honours degree in BSc Applied Animal Science with Therapy from Hartpury University, then completed my Masters degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham.
I worked as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant for two years, gaining practical knowledge in veterinary care that complemented my physiotherapy work. This experience has enhanced my clinical skills, deepened my understanding of animal behavior and welfare, and improved my ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary veterinary team.
I also worked as a Veterinary Physiotherapist and hydrotherapist in a busy animal rehab clinic in Bristol. three years’ experience working in a busy rehabilitation clinic. During this time, I treated a wide variety of cases including orthopaedic, neurological, post-operative, and chronic conditions. This experience has strengthened my ability to deliver tailored, effective rehabilitation plans, always focused on improving mobility, comfort, and quality of life for animals.
I am fully insured and a registered member of The Institute of Registered Veterinary & Animal Practitioners (IRVAP), which accredits professionals in animal therapies, including veterinary physiotherapy. This membership ensures that practitioners maintain high standards of clinical expertise, professionalism, and ethical care.
