T J Hughes Veterinary Physiotherapy

Helping your animals feel their best- Compassionate, tailored mobile Veterinary Physiotherapy in Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas.

About Me: Tessa Hughes

I’ve loved animals from a young age, volunteering at rescue centres, veterinary practices, and kennels, where I developed hands-on experience and a deep understanding of animal care and welfare. I hold an MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy, a BSc in Applied Animal Science with Therapy, and a Level 3 certificate in Small Animal Hydrotherapy with advanced treadmill.

I also have experience as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant, gaining practical veterinary skills that complement my physiotherapy work. This has strengthened my clinical expertise, deepened my knowledge of animal behaviour, health and welfare, and enhanced my ability to collaborate within a veterinary team.

I am fully insured with Towergate Insurance and I am a registered member of The Institute of Registered Veterinary & Animal Practitioners (IRVAP). IRVAP accredits professionals in veterinary physiotherapy, ensuring that members maintain high standards of clinical expertise, professionalism, and ethical care-ensuring the highest standards of care for every animal I treat.

What is Veterinary Physiotherapy?

Veterinary Physiotherapy focuses on the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of animals to support mobility, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being. It involves a detailed clinical evaluation of each animal’s movement and function, followed by a tailored plan using techniques such as manual therapies, controlled exercises, and other modalities.

Veterinary physiotherapy supports recovery from injury or surgery, manages chronic conditions such as arthritis, and helps sporting, working, and performance animals maintain strength, flexibility, and comfort. While most commonly used for dogs, horses and cats, it can benefit many other species too, helping them stay active, comfortable, and happy.

Common Conditions Treated In Veterinary Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy helps dogs, horses, and other animals maintain mobility, comfort, and overall wellbeing. It is beneficial for conditions such as, but not limited to:

  • - Arthritis and joint stiffness

  • - Hip or elbow dysplasia

  • - Back pain, IVDD , FCE , kissing spines, and other spinal or neurological conditions

  • - Muscle strains, ligament and tendon injuries

  • - Pre- or post-surgical rehabilitation

  • - Preventative maintenance and performance support for sporting and working animals

Each animal receives a tailored physiotherapy plan, designed specifically for their condition, needs, and treatment goals, to support mobility, comfort, and quality of life.
